After Your Filler Treatment: What to Do in the First 48 Hours
Some swelling, tenderness, and minor bruising after lip or dermal filler treatment is a normal part of the process and typically resolves within 24 to 72 hours. The steps below can help minimise discomfort and support your result during the initial healing window.

1.
Keep your head elevated for the first few hours after treatment, including when resting. Lying flat too soon after lip filler in particular can increase swelling.
4.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours. Elevated heart rate and blood pressure can increase bruising.
7.
Arnica gel or arnica supplements can help reduce bruising in some clients. Ask your injector at your appointment if this is appropriate for you.
2.
Apply a clean cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the treated area for 10 minutes at a time during the first 24 hours. Do not apply ice directly to the skin.
5.
Do not massage or apply pressure to the treated area unless specifically instructed to do so by your injector.
8.
If you notice any unusual firmness, blanching of the skin, significant asymmetry, or prolonged swelling beyond 72 hours, contact the clinic directly. These are uncommon but warrant assessment.
3.
Avoid heat for 48 hours: no saunas, hot yoga, steam rooms, or very hot showers. Heat increases blood flow to the treated area and can worsen swelling and bruising.
6.
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after treatment. Alcohol thins the blood and increases the likelihood of bruising.
Most clients are comfortable and presentable within two to three days. Lip filler swelling tends to peak at around 24 to 48 hours before settling. The final settled result is typically visible within seven to fourteen days.
